THE LORD LIVES

I walk through empty streets, through valleys filled with empty gaze; I see the look my eyes once shared—the one that shaped my mind back then. I see the soul that’s bent with burden, too much for it to bear; this burden void of deeper meaning, that leaves much empty space.

Lost are the souls in this void state—they’ve lost the way to hope; and dread is still their best of friends—the best within despair. For lost are souls that sell the truth for but a bowl of stew; for bread that’s lost in space and time, for things they can’t undo.

I feel the sorrow in their voice, the one that’s left by pain; the one that causes desolation and leaves the greatest stain. I hear them question, one by one—a quiet cry, a heart that’s loud—a scream that feels like sting: “Where was your God in my great need, when I was feeling drowned? (When I was calling for His name) Where was He in my suffering?”

The Lord is there with aching hearts, He lives right in your pain,

He speaks through those that bring His peace, whose touch is more humane;

The Lord lives close to those who mourn, He listens to your plea,

And sends you comfort all anew, through arms of charity.

The Lord was there when you prevailed and said it was just you,

Yet all the while your conscience cried the truth you always knew;

That it was He who still stood there despite your deep contempt,

Who lived in secret by your side, and spared you from the end.

He still lived there beside your path when choices caught you up,

When you kept falling and all doors—that once were wide—were shut;

He heard your voice cry out to Him, your anger and your blame,

Words that even for the smallest soul would still have brought deep shame.

 —

The Lord lives in forgiveness, He still accepts your plea,

He’s seen your deepest wounds and falls and still He lets you be—

He lets you walk the empty path if this is what you choose,

For He’s the Father your heart seeks, yet still you dare to lose.

The Lord remains with those who seek His holy voice,

With those who walk the narrow path, for He’s their truest choice—

For He’s the banner of their soul, the song that their heart sings;

 In those who always bear His light, indeed the Lord still lives!
