In Smaller Things

How do I know that God is near
When shadows creep beside my light?
—when silence keeps my heart in fear,
how do I see beyond my fight?
By smaller things that make you stare
(This lower voice that stirs the air)
—and whisper: still, you're in His care.

What cause will lift my hands in prayer,
when my soul shivers in the night?
—when burdens weight too much to bear,
what's there to stop my weary plight?
The smaller things that grasp your gaze
(This breeze that sets your thoughts ablaze)
—and sing the truth your spirit prays

Where can I find His tender grace,
when mists have covered all my sight?
—when rains have poured above my trace,
where do I ask what's left or right?
In smaller things that yet speak loud
(The warming words that chance allowed)
—and shine through hearts that stay around

There's times He's seen in hidden things:
(The lower voice that's in the air,
The breeze that sets your heart ablaze,
The warming words that show His care,
The souls that never cease to praise)
Those smaller signs that knit your wings.
